Ten years ago, founders Marc Merrill and Brandon Beck started building a business based on improving an online game they loved. Newly minted pro LoL team owners include Washington Wizards owner Ted Leonsis, Hollywood producer and Los Angeles Dodgers co-owner Peter Guber, AOL co-founder Steve Case, life coach Tony Robbins, and owners of the Philadelphia 76ers. In 2015, investors swooped in to buy stakes in teams and purchase slots in the league to build their own squads. Riot also sells corporate sponsorships, real-life merchandise, and streaming rights for its professional sports league. This year, those virtual goods will yield nearly $1.6 billion in sales for Riot, estimates SuperData, which tracks in-game spending. While it's free to download and play, devotees can purchase extra characters-champions, in LoL-speak-and buy them virtual clothing, known as skins, and plenty of other decorative stuff. Every month, more than 100 million gamers play LoL, as its fans call it. You probably aren't a guy between the ages of 16 and 30, either. If you've never heard of League of Legends or the company that makes it, Riot Games, you're not alone.

It takes about as much time to watch your replay as it does to play another game. The other thing standing in the way of watching replays? Time. Replays can be a very valuable tool to improve your game - watching your plays while you’re not playing gives you a completely different perspective - but players who have wanted to watch replays are so used to using Plays.TV that some haven’t quite made the switch yet. But even with this cool new feature, a lot of players have been slow to adapt. Replays were high on the list and now the company can finally cross it off.
Regardless of the silly name, it’s great that Riot is finally getting around to giving the players what they want. Replays stick around until you patch, so if you played a game on 6.22, that replay will only be around until the 6.23 patch comes out. (It would have been funnier to have these files called. webm files can be played in browsers easily, so I guess that’s not so bad.
While watching your replay, you can clip out and automatically save highlights from your matches within the client! These are less fun. Here’s the kick: the file extension for your replays is. After you finish a game, you can download a copy of your game to replay and review! Riot Games recently implemented a replay system in the newest version of the game’s client.
